MIND-BODY / STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM

All of the class instructors are certified or trained professionals who donate their time & talent in support of community members

 

Starting the week with Farzaneh • Monday 9 – 10am
Bringing light and positive energy through your yoga practice to those affected by cancer.

Hatha Yoga • Monday 1:30 – 2:45pm
Hatha yoga is a gentle yoga practice ideal for beginners, seniors, and anyone who wishes to move at a slower pace. The class combines postures, breathing, and meditation with Mary Nieraeth.

Morning Yoga • Tuesday 9:30 – 10:45am
Balance, inner calm, flexibility and strength; using a gentle approach and pose modification. We will practice breathing techniques, stretching, and meditation with Efrat.

Tai Chi • Tuesday 1 – 2 pm
A graceful, slow & gentle exercise which improves balance and coordination as well as good physical and mental health and well-being. Anyone, old or young, strong or weak can benefit. With Richard Goodman.

Pilates • Thursday 9:30 – 10:30am
Pilates helps people move, bend and stretch with benefits such as increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing and a stronger core with Cheryl Mansfield.

Relaxation & Visualization • Thursday 5:15pm
Using well researched techniques, learn to relax your body and mind while increasing awareness and recognizing and developing your own visual images.

Early Yoga • Wednesday 9:30am
Come to relax and rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit. Join Cathy Mueller or Nina Bellow. Explore breathing techniques, simple stretches and guided relaxation.

Hatha or Vinyasa Yoga • Thursday 6pm
In a supportive and welcoming environment, Laurie Angress encourages students to move, breathe and observe sensations without attachment.

Basic Yoga • Friday 11 am
Move all your major muscle groups while addressing any movement limitations. Appropriate for all levels of ability from beginner to intermediate and in any stage of recovery. With Michael Norder.

Writing for Wellness • 3rd Saturday 9am – 12pm
Barbara Force continues the solid foundation of Barbara Abercrombie’s writing by encouraging those affected by cancer to use writing as a tool for expression and reducing stress.

Reiki Energy Circle • 4th Friday 12:30 – 3pm* • 2nd Thursday 6 – 8 pm

Facilitated with Jovita Trani and other Reiki Masters from the South Bay. In a group setting, learn to share and experience giving and receiving energy.
*Except November & December when Reiki is on the 3rd Friday

Let the staff help you with your physical recovery from cancer. Their one-to-one attention will be well worth your time and effort. Don’t hesitate if you never considered this aspect of recovery, health and activity; offered to Cancer Support Community members, cancer survivors and their support persons. Call to schedule a session. You don’t have to have any previous experience or fitness training. Call to book a session. RSVP 24 hours in advance is appreciated, space is limited.

Zumba • Wednesday 12 – 1pm

Zumba combines high energy, motivating music with unique moves and combinations using a fusion of Latin and International music! Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning with easy to follow dance steps.

Cancer Wellfit • Monday & Wednesday 12:30 – 1:30pm

This exercise program is a 10-week group mind/body fitness course designed for adult cancer survivors that are less than a year out of treatment. The group classes focus on resistance and flexibility training to improve functional ability.
