Kids Grief and Transition Group
Wednesdays, February 3 thru April 20  4 – 5:30pm

The Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach is offering a twelve week transitional support group for children ages 5-12 who are grieving the loss of a parent, grand-parent, sibling, or any other family member to cancer. In a small, supportive group setting, children will be supported through understanding death and loss and be guided through the grieving process. The goal of the group is to normalize the healing process. Activities such as art and play will be utilized.  Kid’s Community Group Meetings 5 – 6:30pm on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday

Kid’s Community© is a free support program for children 5 – 12 who have a family member with cancer. The purpose of this group is to offer children ages 5-12 an opportunity to make friends and learn new skills for living with the stresses of cancer, or when there is cancer in the family. In a small, supportive group setting, children will talk, learn, and grow together with other children living with cancer. They will have their questions about cancer answered, learn helpful ways to communicate with others and to ask for help, and learn some useful relaxation techniques. Young Survival Coalition

This monthly support group is for young women diagnosed with breast and/or gynecological cancer before their early 40’s regardless of current age.  Connect with other women who have just been diagnosed, undergoing treatment or are several years finished with treatment.

 

2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, April 12 and 26 • 11am–12pm

Pain Management Support Group with Claudia Welch

To promote a holistic approach to pain with discussions on different topics each week ranging from the benefits of gentle exercise, helpful tips to recognize priorities; supporting alternative as well as complementary treatments.  Claudia Welch has been a facilitator for the American Chronic Pain Association since 2009.

Join us in learning how to paint scenes on paper. Iga will guide you through learning about brushes, strokes, types of paint, color-mixing, and much more to create your own masterpiece!

When Comfort Care is the Alternative with Glen Komatsu, MD

Dr. Glen Komatsu is Chief Medical Officer for Providence TrinityCare Hospice, Chief Medical Officer for Regional Palliative Care Southern California, Medical Director for TrinityKids Pediatric Hospice and Director of Education for the Providence Institute for Human Caring.

Shaking and Baking with Pam Braun

Join us for this fun baking demo with Pam Braun, author of The Ultimate Anti-Cancer Cookbook.  Pam will give us the history of bread (yes there really is a bread history) and show us the almost forgotten art of making bread from scratch.  There is no better taste or smell than fresh baked bread straight from the oven.  To add an interesting twist to the afternoon, we won’t be making loaves of bread, but baking “bread monsters”.  Come join us for a fun, tasty afternoon and let your creative genie out of his/her bottle.  What kind of bread monster or animal will be your favorite?

Melt Method with Nancy Starr

The Melt Method is a self-help technique (using small balls on the hands and feet) designed to balance the nervous system and rehydrate the connective tissue. Medical research has shown that Melt reduces chronic pain, increases flexibility, and heightens your body’s ability to repair and heal itself! All equipment will be provided. The class is taught by Nancy Starr, a massage therapist for the past 11 years and Melt instructor for the past 3 years.

Looking Good and Keeping a Positive Attitude through Chemocessories with Iris Lee Knell, LCSW

Having a positive attitude and looking better has a way of helping cancer patients feel better and helps during recovery. Attendees will learn how to accessorize with jewelry, scarves, and more and will receive complimentary sets of accessories.

Alternative Cancer Treatments Around the World with Dennis Kinnane, PhD, OMD, Lac, RPh

Dr. Kinnane will share with you some effective and safe treatments for cancer which are used in other parts of the world including Asia and Europe and the latest findings from our own country.  He will also speak about the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for use during conventional US treatments. Dr. Kinnane has been a Registered Pharmacist for 46 years and practicing Chinese Medicine in Torrance for 27 years.
